FAQs

How do I register? Is there a registration fee?

There is no fee to submit an abstract or to attend; all are welcome. We do not require any additional registration other than your attendance!

Is the conference for graduate students only? Will other academics be presenting papers as well?

The conference started as a graduate student conference, but in 2015 we added a panel of faculty presenters. Since then, we have had mixed sessions without preference for status. We are still organized by a committee of graduate students, and hope to continue expanding our scope. We have also included presentations from independent scholars in the past.

Can I participate/present virtually?

Sorry! For a number of reasons, including the nature and purpose of the conference, we would ask that you plan on traveling to our location to present your work.

Would you be able to financially support or sponsor my participation?

Unfortunately, we cannot provide the financial means to support your travel to participate.

Is photography/visual art included in your conference?

Yes! We’ve had sculptors, film-makers, photographers, and other multi-media artists share their work, as well as film and photography critics employing photographs to walk us through their argument.

Will there be any kind of catalogue, publication or further dissemination of the work?

At this time we have no plans to produce a conference publication aside from the conference proceedings with copies of the presented abstracts.

How do I get to Bloomington? Where should I stay?

First, remember it is Bloomington, INDIANA. (Some visitors to the campus have sometimes accidentally found themselves in Illinois!) Please visit our Helpful Links page for information on visiting Bloomington and IU. If you cannot find an available hotel in the area, there is a very active Couchsurfing community for the adventurous soul. Some local participants and committee members have also opened their homes in the past to visitors, so please contact the organizers if you find yourself with that need.

Hi Stephanie, thanks for bringing to our attention that we omitted to mention that in the CFP. The CFP has been updated to include the dates of the conference, which are March 2-3, 2018.
